C18:0 GD1a product is a disialoganglioside. Gangliosides are glycophospholipids that consist of one or more sialic acids, in the case of disialoganglioside - two C18:0 fatty sialic acids.
Disialoganglioside GD1a is one of the major glycoconjugates of nerve cells.
It has also been found in bone marrow, erythrocytes, spleen, liver, testis, and serum lipoproteins.
The molecules of Disialoganglioside GD1a are also associated with tumor cells. It’s considered that the glycolipid promotes cancer cell differentiation, proliferation, invasion, and metastasis.
Disialoganglioside GD1a has also been isolated from human monocytes. It acts as a toll-like receptor 2 - TLR2, enhancing the binding of type IIb E. coli enterotoxin to TLR2.
The ganglioside is also found to induce the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells.
Avanti Lipids offers high-grade C18:0 Disialoganglioside-GD1a, validated for usage in an extensive range of research analyses.
