Tauro-γ-Muricholic Acid, also referred to as Taurohyocholic Acid (THCA) is a taurine-conjugated derivative of the primary bile acid (BA) γ-muricholic acid. Tauro-γ-Muricholic Acid has a role as a human metabolite.

γ-Muricholic acid or hyocholic acid is found predominantly in mice and rats, but the BA is also a human urinary metabolite. It is a trihydroxy-5β-cholanic acid in which the three hydroxy substituents are at the 3α-, 6α-, and 7α-positions. The organic compound belongs to the class of muricholic acids.

Tauro-γ-Muricholic Acid, itself, is established to have some specific properties. The derivative prevents the precipitation of cholesterol crystals by enhancing cholesterol stability in the liquid-crystalline phase of its metabolism. 

Studies with rat liver models show that Tauro-γ-Muricholic Acid also prevents cholestasis and cellular necrosis. Therefore, the compound might have therapeutic abilities and be considered for therapeutic applications, but this certainly needs more profound and detailed analyses and investigation.
