Our founder, Dr. Walter (Walt) Shaw, has been on the move. Read on to learn what he has in store for the month of March.

Biophysical Society Meeting

First on the calendar for Walt in the month of March is the Biophysical Society Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. This will be the 63rd annual meeting of the Biophysical Society, and in addition to keynote speakers and educational sessions, Walt will be presenting the 2019 Avanti Award in Lipids to Enrico Gratton. A professor of biomedical engineering at the University of California, Irvine, Gratton has been chosen for this award as a result of his work in the development and application of spectroscopy techniques. His work deals specifically with the lifetimes in biological membranes.

The Avanti Award in Lipids seeks to honor an individual whose contributions to the world of biophysics have furthered knowledge in the field. Walt will honor Gratton during the Awards Symposium on March 5 for his lifelong commitment to the advancement of lipid biophysics.

Deuel Conference

Next on the calendar for Walt is the Deuel Conference in Dana Point, California. This conference centers around the study of lipid metabolism through five educational sessions and an additional informal discussion. This conference encourages the presentation of published and unpublished data in an effort to encourage collaboration and further development of the field in a low-stress environment.

Walt will find himself among attendees from around the world who are fellow investigators of lipids and lipoproteins. The annual conference is put on by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Stay connected with Avanti to learn more about Walt and his activity in the scientific community.
